Liposuction Procedure

Only some people can achieve a slender and toned physique through diet and exercise alone. Most people tend to have areas of stubborn fat pockets that refuse to go away, no matter how faithfully they exercise or how diligently they devote themselves to a healthy diet.

Do you have areas on your body like love handles, a tummy pooch, a muffin top, or other problem areas where fat deposits don’t respond to your best exercise and diet efforts? In that case, it might be time to consult Dr. Josef Hadeed about sculpting your body using liposuction.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes stubborn fat deposits from various body areas, such as the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, arms, or chin. This procedure involves making small incisions through which a thin tube, called a cannula, is inserted to suction out the unwanted excess fat. The result is a reduction of localized fat accumulation and improved body contours. Liposuction can remove unwanted fat from nearly any body area, helping you achieve a more toned and lean appearance and getting you closer to your ideal figure.

Dr. Hadeed is a double board-certified plastic surgeon who is not only highly skilled, extensively trained, and experienced in cosmetic surgery but also a warm and attentive professional who wants each patient to feel comfortable when they enter his office. Dr. Hadeed will determine if you are a good candidate for liposuction and tailor a treatment plan to enhance your body’s unique contours. No matter which area you choose to address, Dr. Hadeed will create aesthetically pleasing contours that complement the natural shape of your body.

What Can Liposuction Achieve?

Defined Contours

Liposuction can refine a patient’s overall figure to highlight the definition in their abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, back, and neck. This procedure eliminates stubborn excess fat to create smoother, firmer body contours.

Customized Results

Many patients close to reaching their weight loss goal customize their liposuction procedure to target specific areas of stubborn fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. These fat pockets can be specifically targeted and permanently removed from the body.

Improved Self-Esteem

Patients who struggle with excess body fat often feel self-conscious and insecure about their appearance. Liposuction can not only provide them with a slimmer and more attractive appearance, but it can also boost their confidence and self-esteem.

There are many liposuction techniques available to help you achieve your cosmetic goals. During your consultation, Dr. Hadeed will address your concerns, explain the details of your procedure, and determine a plan to suit your aesthetic needs.

How Is Liposuction Liposuction Performed?

There are many liposuction techniques available to help you achieve your cosmetic goals. Before scheduling your liposuction procedure, you will meet with Dr. Hadeed for an initial consultation. During your consultation, he will listen to your concerns and discuss whether liposuction suits you. He will explain the details of your procedure, answer any questions you may have, and go over potential risks and complications associated with liposuction surgery. Additionally, Dr. Hadeed will evaluate the areas you want to address, discuss your vision for your post-surgery results, and determine a plan to suit your aesthetic needs. You must provide him with your medical history and a list of medications you are currently taking, including prescriptions, over-the-counter pain relievers, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Liposuction Procedure

Your liposuction procedure will be performed in a state-of-the-art surgical suite, surgery center, or at one of the nearby hospitals where Dr. Hadeed has operating privileges. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Hadeed has the skills, knowledge, and specific training to perform this relatively simple and painless procedure. Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis, and depending on the extent of your desired treatment areas, the surgery can last between 1 and 5 hours.

During your surgical procedure, Dr. Hadeed will make several small incisions along the treated area. Next, he will inject a saline solution containing either local or general anesthesia to help numb the site and loosen the fat for easier extraction. Then, Dr. Hadeed will insert a small instrument called a cannula into the tissues. He gently moves the cannula around, suctioning out the excess fat to produce a more aesthetically pleasing figure. Once the fat has been removed, the incisions are closed using sutures, and a sterile dressing and surgical tape will also be applied to the treated area.

What Can I Expect During My Liposuction Recovery?

Depending on the type of liposuction—either tumescent liposuction, suction-assisted liposuction, laser-assisted liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction, VASER liposuction, or power-assisted liposuction—you will be asked to wear a compression garment for several weeks to protect your new contours and help minimize swelling. Swelling and bruising will occur but should resolve after a few weeks; however, minor swelling may persist intermittently for up to a year. You can typically return to work between one and two weeks after your surgery and resume your usual exercise and other strenuous activities within two to four weeks.

Your recovery and postop instructions may vary, depending on the area(s) treated and the amount of fat removed. It’s important to follow all of Dr. Hadeed’s directions carefully to ensure the best recovery and results possible and maintain normal weight. Rest, hydration, and avoiding smoking and vaping will help reduce your healing time and lower your risk of complications.

When Will I See My Liposuction Results?

You will see some initial results immediately after your liposuction cosmetic procedure. You will have some swelling and minor bruising in the treatment areas that will diminish over time. It may take six weeks to three months to see your final liposuction results, but it will be worth the wait when you see your gorgeous new shape and admire the different areas of your body.

Liposuction FAQ

  • Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Ideal candidates for liposuction are men and women with excess fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise. Some of the other criteria for being a good candidate for liposuction include:

    • Having a healthy and stable body weight
    • Having good skin elasticity and muscle tone
    • Having realistic expectations for your results
    • Being a non-smoker (including vaping)
    • Being in generally good health with no chronic medical concerns

The best candidates for liposuction are also committed to maintaining their weight to ensure long-lasting results.

  • How long will my results last?

Liposuction is permanent because it removes fat cells from the area being treated. However, liposuction is not a weight loss method, and the remaining fat cells in the treated area can grow. Adhering to a healthy diet and exercise program is essential after your procedure because weight gain after surgery can negatively impact your results.

  • Are there any risks involved with liposuction?

Although liposuction is a very safe procedure, as with any surgery, there is a risk of complications. Potential post-surgical risks of liposuction include:

    • Anesthesia risks
    • Bleeding
    • Infection
    • Fluid accumulation
    • Fat necrosis
    • Fatty Tumors
    • Need for revision surgery
    • Change in sensation
  • What parts of my body can I sculpt using liposuction?

Liposuction is incredibly versatile and can remove excess fat from nearly anywhere on your body, from your chin and neck to your ankles. The most common areas of the body chosen for liposuction include:

    • Chin and Neck: eliminate a double chin and remove excess neck fat
    • Abdomen: remove extra flab and create sculpted abs
    • Flanks: eliminate the pesky “muffin top” and “love handles”
    • Breasts: remove fat from the “side boob” area to prevent bra overflow
    • Hips: slim your hips for more shapely contours
    • Thighs: reduce your thighs—inner or outer—to make them more proportional with your knees and calves
    • Knees: remove excess fat from around the knees
    • Ankles: eliminate the dreaded “cankles”
    • Arms: sculpt the upper arms for a more defined and toned appearance
    • Back: remove back fat to smooth your bra line

Liposuction plastic surgery can be performed on the same areas of any man and is perfect for sculpting a more “cut” and masculine physique.

  • Where is the best place on my body to get liposuction?

The optimal area or areas for you to get liposuction surgeries depends on your individual needs. During your consultation and before your plastic surgery procedures, Dr. Hadeed will work with you to create a customized treatment plan to address your “problem spots” to achieve your desired results.

Can liposuction be combined with other procedures?

Liposuction can be performed alongside the following surgical procedures to help you achieve optimal results:

  • Is liposuction safe?

Liposuction performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon is considered very safe. In fact, compared to other types of surgical procedures, it is known as one of the safest. Liposuction is minimally invasive, as the liposuction cannula used to remove fat during the procedure is a narrow tube that removes fat through a small incision in your skin, has few risks or potential complications, and requires little downtime for recovery.

  • Can liposuction be used for weight loss?

Liposuction is not a procedure for weight loss. People who are overweight can lose more weight through diet and exercise than they can through any liposuction procedures. Liposuction is a procedure to help remove stubborn pockets of excess fat that are not responsive to diet and exercise. This procedure helps to put the finishing touches on your body once you have reached a healthy, stable weight.

  • How much fat can be removed with liposuction?

The amount of fat you can safely remove will depend on several factors, including your current health, future goals, and desired results. Most surgeons agree that the maximum amount of fat removed via liposuction is 5,000 ml (approximately 11 pounds) of fat in one liposuction session. Again, the amount of fat removed depends on your unique body composition and will be determined by Dr. Hadeed.

  • Is liposuction painful?

You may experience some pain after your liposuction surgery. The most common side effects include mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness in the surgical area. Dr. Hadeed will prescribe medication to minimize any discomfort you may have after surgery, as well as provide you with a list of pain relievers to avoid.

  • Does liposuction leave scars?

Dr. Hadeed places small incisions in inconspicuous locations during your liposuction procedure. Incision scars are small, easily hidden, and likely to fade. Using scar cream and silicone strips and avoiding the sun can help ensure any scars that form will be as invisible as possible.

  • How much does liposuction cost in Beverly Hills, CA?

The cost of liposuction in Beverly Hills, CA, will vary based on certain factors, including the anesthesia fees, surgical fees, and the liposuction techniques used. Dr. Hadeed will provide you with a cost estimate for your liposuction procedure during your consultation.
