Everyone wants to feel happy about who they are and how they look. Many people are dissatisfied with their appearance, be it their flabby stomach or receding hairline, but those with gender dysphoria experience a different kind of dissatisfaction. Individuals with gender dysphoria feel that their true gender identity does not match their biological sex and physical characteristics. Trans men who would like to attain more masculine features and trans women who would like more feminine features can undergo certain gender affirmation procedures to help align their internal gender identity with their physical appearance. Dr. Hadeed’s specialized knowledge will assist your personal needs and help you be your true self through one or more gender affirmation procedures.

Gender Dysphoria

What Is It?

Gender dysphoria is a condition in which a person is unhappy with their appearance as their biological gender. They inherently feel that their assigned gender does not match their true gender identity. This often manifests as the transgender person living emotionally and physically as the sex opposite they were assigned at birth.

How Can Dr. Hadeed Help?

Patients experiencing gender dysphoria who are certain they would like to undergo surgery can be helped. To be considered for the procedure, patients must be emotionally stable and medically healthy.

Male to Female (MTF) Procedures

Transgender Breast Augmentation

Transgender breast augmentation surgery, also known as MTF top surgery, is designed to enhance the breasts and feminize the chest. Dr. Hadeed will insert breast implants (sometimes combined with fat grafting) to reshape the chest to appear more feminine. This procedure can improve the psychological and social functioning of transgender females by allowing them to align their physical characteristics with their internal sense of identity.

Body Contouring

Body contouring can address several issues such as loose skin and excess fat that have formed around the abdomen, buttocks, groin, thighs, and arms. These procedures can also redistribute body fat and help create more slender contours and feminine curves for trans women.

Facial Feminization Surgery

Facial feminization surgery, or FFS, is performed to help create softer facial characteristics. It involves a range of aesthetic and reconstructive procedures that manipulate the bone and soft tissues of the face to create a more feminine appearance.

Orchiectomy

An orchiectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the testicles. Some trans women who are not ready for full gender affirmation surgery with a vaginoplasty may choose to have an orchiectomy.

Female to Male (FTM) Procedures

Transgender Mastectomy

Transgender mastectomy, also known as FTM top surgery, is a reconstructive surgical procedure designed to remove the breast tissue and masculinize the chest. This surgical procedure offers several different techniques based on the needs and anatomy of the patient.

Body Contouring

Body contouring procedures can correct sagging tissue along with excess skin and fat on the abdomen, buttocks, groin, thighs, and arms. Body contouring can help create more defined contours and a more masculine appearance for trans men.

Facial Masculinization Surgery

Facial masculinization surgery, or FMS, involves a range of aesthetic and reconstructive procedures to work and reshape the face through manipulation of the bone and soft tissues to create more defined and handsome characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gender Affirmation

  • How long can gender affirmation take to perform?

Gender affirmation is usually a combination of procedures spaced apart over several operations to achieve the final result. Each surgery can vary in length.

  • Do I need any letters of recommendation for gender affirmation surgery?

Our office follows the WPATH guidelines for surgery. One letter of recommendation from a qualified mental health therapist is required for top surgery, and two letters are required for bottom surgery. No letters of recommendation are necessary for facial procedures or body contouring surgeries.

  • Can I have a surgical gender affirmation procedure if I am a smoker?

Dr. Hadeed will not perform FTM or MTF surgeries on anyone who is an active smoker. He requires patients to be entirely nicotine-free for at least four weeks before their surgery to maximize wound healing and minimize any risk of infection.

  • Will insurance cover my gender affirmation procedure?

Insurance companies may cover your gender affirmation procedure. However, every insurance policy is different, and there may be exceptions for certain procedures. If your insurance does not cover, or only partially covers your procedure, there are many medical financing companies available to help you cover the expenses.
